{"id":2976,"date":"2019-06-20T09:51:26","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T09:51:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tgpiaimaritime.com.my\/?p=2976"},"modified":"2019-10-18T02:17:02","modified_gmt":"2019-10-18T02:17:02","slug":"petronas-aramco-start-naphtha-cracker-at-new-pengerang-refinery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tgpiaimaritime.com.my\/zh-hans\/petronas-aramco-start-naphtha-cracker-at-new-pengerang-refinery\/","title":{"rendered":"Petronas, Aramco start naphtha cracker at new Pengerang refinery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Star<br \/>\n20th June, 2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and Saudi Aramco have started operations at their new 1.2-million-tonnes-per-year naphtha cracker, multiple sources familiar the matter said.<\/p>\n<p>The sources added that naphtha was imported this month specifically for the cracker, which had started recently though an exact time frame could not be confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Petronas did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The cracker is part of the US$2.7bil joint-venture oil refinery and petrochemical project known as Rapid \u2013 or Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development \u2013 located in Pengerang, in Johor.<\/p>\n<p>The unit cracks naphtha into a chain of hydrocarbons, the bulk of it into ethylene which is predominantly used to produce plastics.<\/p>\n<p>Rapid also houses a 300,000 barrel-per-day refinery apart from various petrochemical lines which can produce a total of 7.7 million tonnes a year of petrochemical products.<\/p>\n<p>But the complex was hit by a fire in April when trial runs were being conducted.<\/p>\n<p>The fire-hit residue desulphrizer is still under repair.
